Washoe Medical Examiner: Tony Perry's Death Ruled Accidental

The Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office has released the cause of death of 48-year-old Tony Perry. Perry was running for Reno Mayor as Tony Perri.

The examiner’s office says autopsy and toxicology test results show Perry died from an overdose of methadone; his death has been ruled accidental.

Perry died April 14.

Perry's legal last name is with a 'Y' but he filed as a candidate with the last name Perri, with an 'I.'

Washoe County Registrar Luanne Cutler says Perri's name will appear on the primary ballot. Cutler says that under state law, a name is removed if a candidate dies before 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday in April before the primary election.

Notices will be posted at polling locations informing voters of Perri's death. In the unlikely event he wins the primary, the name of the next highest vote-getter will take his place on the general election ballot.
