Check of Local Sex Registrants in South Lake Yields 4 Arrests

Posted: Updated:
South Lake Tahoe Police made four arrests this week while conducting compliance checks for local registered sex offenders.

On Tuesday, they checked six locations and contacted people at four of them.

One man, 68-year-old Gary Meyer, was arrested for not living at his registered address - a felony.
Another, 47-year-old Charles Langley, was taken in on felony drug possession charges.

A third man, 28-year-old Merlin Griffiths, was charged with two misdemeanors for weapon possession and probation violation.

And the fourth man, 31-year-old Jose Mariscal, tried to prevent officers from searching their home, also a misdemeanor.

Police say the compliance checks prompted two additional sex offenders to promptly report to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and update their information.

Police say these physical checks help keep the community safe.
