Secret Witness in Lake Tahoe is offering a $1,000 reward for information about a recent heist at a jewelry store near the California-Nevada line.

Police Chief Brian Uhler says four masked men used a sledgehammer to gain access to Simpson's Jewelers Store on April 29th.

He told the Lake Tahoe News they were caught on surveillance tape but committed the "smash and grab" in less than five minutes. Uhler says it suggests the thieves were fairly sophisticated.

Detectives are trying to determine if there's any connection to another recent burglary in Reno at Devon's Jewelers in the Meadowood Mall.

Store officials haven't determined the total loss, but they say the most valuable jewelry is kept in safes.

Authorities say they recently recovered a stolen silver Ford F250 pickup believed to be used in the case.

If you have any information on this case, you're asked to call the South Lake Tahoe Police Department at 530-542-6100 or Secret Witness at 530- 541-6800 or go online to www.secretwitness.com. Your call will remain anonymous.
