Las Vegas scored first, but the Reno Aces used a five-run fourth inning to beat the 51s, 7-5 in Las Vegas Tuesday Night.
The 51s scored in the second inning, when Zach Lutz walked to lead off the inning and came around to score on a fielder’s choice catching error by Nick Ahmed. It was the 16th time this season the Aces have surrendered the first run on the game.
Reno struck back in a big way in the fourth inning, scoring five runs in the frame. The first five batters of the inning reached base safely, thanks to two hits, two walks and an error. Randy Wolf added a sacrifice fly, his first RBI of the season.
The Aces added two more in the fifth to stretch the lead to six, thanks in part to Las Vegas’ fourth error of the game. The four errors are the most an Aces’ opponent has committed in a game this season.
Las Vegas wouldn’t go away, however, and responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth inning, the 51s loaded the bases, but Kevin Munson came on and struck out Cesar Puello to end the inning.
In the eighth, Las Vegas added a pair to cut the lead to two runs.
Evan Marshall got the last five outs to record his first save of the season. The Aces now have seven saves in the month of April, the most the team has ever recorded in the first month of the season.
Ender Inciarte extended his hit streak to eight games with his single in the fifth inning. He also registered his league-leading fifth outfield assist of the season in the bottom of the fifth when he gunned down Wilmer Flores attempting to score to end the inning.
Bobby Wilson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run for Reno. Randy Wolf registered his third-consecutive win after going 5.1 innings and allowing three runs, two earned on seven hits. He also struck out six and walked three.
The same two teams will meet again tomorrow night for game three of the four-game series at 7:05 p.m. Newly-acquired RHP Lucas Harrell (0-3, 9.49) will get his first start as a member of the Aces, and RHP Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 5.04) will toe the rubber for Las Vegas.
