Public Meetings on Bistate Sage Grouse Postponed

Posted: Updated:
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Agency has postponed two public hearings on its proposal to list a distinct species of sage grouse found along the Nevada-California line as threatened.
Agency officials say hearings that were scheduled Tuesday in Minden and Wednesday in Bishop, Calif., will be rescheduled. New dates were announced.
Fish and Wildlife Service earlier this month had extended for 60 days the comment period on the proposals, which include listing the bistate sage grouse as a threatened species and designating 1.8 million acres of critical habitat for the species.
Officials say delaying public hearings will give the public more time to review comments and submit responses.
A separate process is underway to determine whether the entire sage grouse population found in 11 Western states should be federally protected.  (AP)
