Reno Salon to Hold 'Cut-a-Thon' to Help Family With Medical Costs
Being playful is how the Baker family gets through the tough times. And there are are plenty of tough times.
"When she was ten months old that's when they did the first kidney biopsy after that it was kinda - all the time," says mother Kristen.
Staying positive is important to Kristen and her husband Nick. Their daughter, Eloise was only six months old when she was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called FSGS. What causes it isn't clearly understood and there is no cure. "We've kinda been trying a variety of different treatments, none of them appear to be working. So, right now we're lined up to do a kidney transplant on Eloise," says Nick.
There are limited pediatric resources in Northern Nevada, so the Baker family regularly travels to UC Davis Children's hospital for treatments. Even with medical insurance, the costs are staggering. A "cut-a-thon" benefit is planned for this weekend at Salon 7 in Reno
"So, all the stylist are donating their time?"
"Yes, donating their time, donating their money, all that stuff - everything goes to baby."
The cut-a-thon is this Sunday from 10am-4pm at Salon 7 in Reno. The charge is only $10 per cut.
