Washoe County Sheriff's Office Holds Crime Lab Open House
If you've ever wanted to go behind the scenes at a crime lab you're in luck. The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is holding an open house at its forensics lab on Thursday, April 24th.
TV shows like CSI and Bones have really brought crime labs into the spotlight. So it’s a good chance for people to see real life investigators in action.
The Washoe County Forensics Lab serves 80 local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Investigators look at evidence and analyze blood samples, fingerprints and even fibers taken from crime scenes. Forensic Science Division Director Renee Romero says the lab gets dozens of tour requests every year. "So many people want to come in and see what we do. So this open house is a way for us to open the doors and let all those groups come in and see what we do,” she said.
The open house will also give people a chance to analyze a crime scene and solve a murder using the tools and techniques at the forensics lab. And with all the kids interested in careers like those on CSI, they’ll have a chance to talk to forensic investigators and ask questions.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Lab open house is Thursday, April 24th from 8:30 am to 4 pm at 911 Parr Blvd. in Reno.
If you have a group larger than ten people you're asked to call ahead to reserve a spot. That number is: 328-2800.
