Local Sign Company Benefits From Political Season

Posted: Updated:
It's a small shop in south Reno called TrafficBuilders, Inc. And it is making a serious profit on the political campaigns.

"We are printing....a lot of signs. Thousands of them!" said owner Valerie Rothe. "In fact we just made another order of core-plast (the corrugated plastic sheets the signs are printed on). It's our sixth order so far and we haven't even gotten to through the primary."

The silk screening printing machine they use is not new, but she says it's the only one in the area that can print one color at a time and mass produce signs that are instantly dried and ready to be hung around town. She's thankful for that old machine and for the business she says she can count on.

"Christmas comes here every two years, whenever it's a political season. But this particular year is an extremely busy one. There are nearly 20 candidates running for mayor in Reno and all the other local offices too. And they all need signs," she says.

In non-political times she says she runs about 20 jobs a month. But during political seasons like this, she says she runs close to 120 jobs in a month.

And while she does have competition, it's basically from the internet.

"But what people don't see is that by the time they add the shipping costs, it's about the same as buying local and we always want people to buy local."
