South Korean President: Ferry Crew Actions Were 'Murderous'

Posted: Updated:
As divers continue to search the interior of a sunken ferry, the number of confirmed deaths has risen to 86, with about 220 other people still missing. That information comes from the coast guard. It was posted for families of the victims.
About 250 of the dead and missing were students from a single high school near Seoul who were on their way to visit a tourist island.
Today, South Korea's president is accusing the ferry's captain and some crew members of "unforgivable, murderous behavior." She says the captain "told the passengers to stay put" while crew members "became the first to escape."
The captain initially told passengers to stay in their rooms, and waited more than a half hour to issue an evacuation order as the ship listed and sank. By then, the ship had tilted so much, it's believed that many passengers were trapped inside.
The captain and two crew members have been arrested on suspicion of negligence and abandoning people in need. Prosecutors said today that four other crew members have been detained.   (AP)
