Standoff on Valley Road Ends in Arrest

Reno Police have arrested a man, after a standoff closed a portion of Valley Road late Saturday evening.

According to officers, police were called to an apartment in the 1700 block of Valley Road at around 8 p.m. on reports of a dispute. Witnesses say a man pulled out a handgun during an argument and threatened to shoot the victim.

He then began waiving the gun around in front of several other people. When police arrived, he ran inside an apartment. The resident of that apartment came outside and told officers the suspect had barricaded himself inside.

Police then closed a portion of Valley Road and asked residents at the apartment complex to voluntarily evacuate.

Officers say, after several hours of negotiating, the suspect left the apartment and was arrested without incident.

That man has been identified as 23-year-old Jose Luis Barajas-Lopez.

He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a firearm, and obstructing and resisting.
