Firefighting Aircraft Company to Bring Jobs to Reno

Posted: Updated:

As we head into fire season, local firefighters are getting some big help fighting brushfires.

The Coulson Group brought a massive air tanker to the Biggest Little City on Friday. It's being kept at Atlantic Aviation on Rock Boulevard.

The Canadian company loved what the area had to offer overall - and they had a great experience working with our community leaders. "When we came and explored Reno, it was night and day, overwhelming, compared to other areas so, we were just embraced by it all and we couldn't work with a better group," says COO Jim Messer.

The C-130 is run by three crew members. It can hold up to 3,500 gallons of fire retardant and can fly low to drop it onto burn areas.

They're also looking to hire 20 people for things like flight crew or clerical positions. More details on jobs were not immediately available. When they release that information, we'll be sure to pass it along to you.

The Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority told me how exciting it's been to work with Coulson.

"There's so many wins here today. First of all, this is a new business that's bringing jobs to our community, 20 jobs that they're bringing to our area, and we have behind us a new fixed base operation here at the airport that just opened on April 8th. They're going to hangar their aircraft here," says Marily Mora.

Coulson will be working with the U.S. Forest Service and they hope to bring more aircrafts to our area in the future.
