A five-run, bottom of the fifth helped Colorado State to a 7-1 Mountain West win over the Nevada softball team Thursday afternoon at Ram Field.

Neither team could bring a run home through four complete innings, with the Wolf Pack (21-20, 3-10 MW) outhitting the Rams (25-10, 6-4 MW) 4-2 during that stretch. Colorado State broke through, however, in the bottom of the fifth, plating five runs in the frame. The Rams led off the inning with a walk and a bunt single. Both runners were advanced one base on a successful sacrifice bunt.

With one out, Chelsea O'Connor roped a line drive single up the middle, just out of the reach of Nevada starter McKenna Isenberg, plating two runs. After a hit by pitch placed two runners on the base paths, CSU's Ashlie Ortega lined a double to left center, allowing two more runs to cross home plate. The Rams brought in one more run in the inning on a single that sneaked past a diving Amanda Weis at third, giving CSU a 5-0 advantage after five innings.

Weis got the Pack on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth, launching a sky-high solo homerun over the right center field fence. The solo shot for Weis gives her a team-best eight homeruns on the year. CSU's Kendal Butterfield produced a solo shot of her own in the team's next at-bat, extending the Rams' lead. A sacrifice fly to left plated the final Colorado State run of the ballgame, giving the team the 7-1 victory.

Isenberg suffered the loss and fell to 7-4 on the year after tossing 5.1 innings and surrendering the seven earned runs on eight hits and four walks. Senior Ariel Craig entered the game in relief in the sixth and recorded outs with both batters she faced.

The Wolf Pack matched the Rams in terms of hits in the ballgame, collecting eight total. Megan Sweet, Weis and Sara Parsons each had two-hit performances. Erin Jones and Ashley Butera posted the other two Nevada hits.

CSU starting pitcher Holly Reinke earned her 14th win of the season after throwing all seven innings of work, allowing one earned run on eight hits. Reinke struck out seven Wolf Pack batters in the win.

Nevada continues its three-game set with the Rams Friday afternoon with a 3 p.m. contest.
