Catholic Charities & the St. Vincent's Programs is asking the community for non-perishable food donations to give away at our upcoming "Thanksgiving in May" event happening Wednesday, May 21 at 8 a.m. at the St. Vincent's Food Pantry. The organization has 1,000 frozen turkeys to give out to our food pantry clients, but need additional food to help round out the distribution.
A sample of needed items are:
* Canned vegetables
* Canned Fruits
* Custard, Jell-O, dessert mixes
"We think this event really highlights the fact that hunger occurs in our community year round, and not just during the holidays," said St. Vincent's Food Pantry Manager Scott Cooksley. The pantry's goal is to give 1,000 hungry local households a turkey and a box of food so each can prepare a special "holiday" meal.
Donations can be dropped off at St. Vincent's Food Pantry at 500 E. Fourth Street in Reno, Mondays through Fridays from 9 – 5 and Saturdays from 9 – 3. If your business or organization would like to hold a food drive for "Thanksgiving in May," call Emelie Williams at 322-7073 x 242 to schedule a barrel delivery.
