Reno Mayoral Candidate Tony Perry Dies at 48

Posted: Updated:

A representative with Washoe County tells Channel 2 News that Reno mayoral candidate Tony Perry (also known as Tony Perri) died Monday night at the age of 48.

The non-partisan's candidates cause of death hasn't been determined.

Perry was one of 20 candidates who filed to run for the City of Reno mayor after outgoing mayor Bob Cashells reaches his term limit. Perry's legal last name is with a 'Y' but he filed as a candidate with the last name Perri, with a 'I.'

One candidate had previously dropped out of the race so the total now stands at 18.

Washoe County Registrar Luanne Cutler says Perri's name will appear with 18 other candidates on the ballot. Cutler says that under state law, a name is removed if a candidate dies before 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday in April before the primary election.
Notices will be posted at polling locations informing voters of Perri's death. In the unlikely event he wins the primary, the name of the next highest vote-getter will take his place on the general election ballot.
