Aces Release

The Reno Aces' ninth-inning rally fell short Tuesday night in a 6-3 loss to the Las Vegas 51s at Aces Ballpark.

The Aces plated three runs in the final frame and got the winning run to the plate with two outs, but saw their comeback bid fall short when Blake Lalli struck out to end the game.

Jacob deGrom got his first win of the season for the 51s after he pitched seven scoreless innings and struck out four hitters. He allowed just three hits and one walk in the game.

Las Vegas got on the board in the third inning when they registered three consecutive hits to start the inning. Eric Campbell's RBI single drove in Chris Young, who lead off the frame with a double to left field. After a Bobby Abreu single and a Wilmer Flores sacrifice fly scored Campbell, Allan Dykstra hit a double to left field. Abreu, who was running on the pitch, scored from first.

The 51s scored in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to stretch the lead to six before the Aces mounted their rally.

Three consecutive hits by Alfredo Marte, Ender Inciarte and Didi Gregorius loaded the bases to start the ninth, and Cody Ross reached on a throwing error by third baseman Zach Lutz, which allowed Marte to score. Two batters later, Roger Kieschnick drove in Inciarte, and Didi Gregorius scored on a wild pitch during the next at-bat.

The rally would fall short, however, when Josh Edgin struck out Lalli to end the game. The loss droped the Aces to 6-7 on the season.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night, with No. 1 prospect Archie Bradley (1-1, 1.50) getting the start for Reno and Logan Verrett (0-1, 3.97) getting the nod for Las Vegas. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
