The new William N. Pennington Boys & Girls Club in Reno is set to open next month. And on Tuesday, they got a huge boost to get the program off and running.
The Hot August Nights Foundation had a big gift for the Boys and Girls Club - a $100,000 check to help finish the new building. It's something they say this whole community can feel good about. "You're out there having fun as an adult, but know that when you're out there supporting HAN, you're supporting our kids in our community," says Mike Wurm of the Boys & Girls Club.
The $100,000 will help the Boys and Girls Club finish construction on the new building. It's only the second building they have ever built that is strictly for the Boys & Girls Club's use, located at the old YMCA site on Foster Drive.
When it's fully open, it will be able to serve about 3,000 kids. This money will go toward the new multi-purpose room-- where they serve meals and hold different events and activities.
The Hot August Nights Foundation raises its money through raffles during the event - and through license plate sales. They say they are thrilled to be able to help an organization that does so much good for local kids. "It's just a place for kids to go where they know that they have support, where they have a foundation and where they can work on excelling and getting to that next level," says Tony Marini, executive director of Hot August Nights.
The new Boys & Girls Club building is set to open on May 20th - and it's never too late to get your kid signed up.
