Tax Deadline Is Tuesday At Midnight

Posted: Updated:

It might be one of the days Americans dread most, but we all have to do it.

Of course, we are talking about tax day. The deadline to file is Tuesday night at midnight.

The Internal Revenue Service has already received nearly 100 million tax returns but is expecting about 35 million more by in the final day.

According to the IRS, about 65 percent of filers get some sort of refund.

For those who end up owing, the IRS does provide a number of options.

"If you do owe for taxes for 2013, then you would want to get an extension filed and get that in before midnight on the 15th, so either postmark or eFile that extension to avoid failure to file penalties," said Amy Landon, the office manager for H&R Block.

If you haven't filed at all and you don't think you will make it Tuesday night, you can file for an extension, which will give you until October 15th.

However, you do have to meet certain requirements in order to file later.

"Of course, there are some fees and some interest that often applies to those situations, but you can set those payment agreements up online."
