Body Found Buried in Shallow Grave

Posted: Updated:

The Churchill County Sheriff's Office says a body has been found by campers buried in a shallow grave 9 miles north of the Nightingale exit on Sunday.

Sheriff Ben Trotter says the body was that of a man and was exposed because of erosion and animal activity.

Following autopsy, deputies say the victim is a white man with white hair and a small patch of hair on his chin.  He had been missing 2 front teeth for a period of time.  Deputies say the victim had a shattered right femur and had a metal rod surgically installed inside the bone of his right femur.

Evidence indicates the victim most likely died as a result of a gunshot.  Toxicology results are pending.

If anyone has information they believe may help identify the victim please contact Sgt. Richard Hickox at the Churchill County Sheriff's Office at (775) 423-3116 or rhickox@so.churchill.nv.us.

The body has been taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner and more information will be released as the investigation continues.
