Ready, Set, Hack!

Posted: Updated:

Ever wonder what it's like to develop an app?  What about develop one in under 24 hours?  About 50 people are doing so this weekend. It's all part of Reno Hack 2014.

"This is exactly what I want to see," said Mridul Guatam, Vice President for Research and Innovation. "Not just today, I'd love to see this every weekend, every day."

It's not only University of Nevada students who are competing, but people from across the region.  The task is simple: conceive and design an app for a smart phone, and do it in 24 hours.  Some ideas Saturday include recipe, card game apps, and just other games in general.

How do people expect to stay awake? Caffeine. They have a room full of candy, and energy drinks.  Some hackers say that staying up isn't the hardest part of the hack.

"The most challenging part is going to be interacting with more advances API,  and try to hook up with   the Windows Live operating system," said Bradley Smith.

"There's going to be times where we're going to be sitting down, and taking a break and everything, but for the most part, it's going to be hard core typing and logic and process and everything," said Zach Lea.
