Nevada Beats San Diego State 4-2

 The University of Nevada (17-14, 9-7 MW) baseball team hit a season-high three home runs to defeat San Diego State (25-9, 10-6 MW) 4-2 in the first-game of a three-game Mountain West series at Peccole Park on Friday night.  Winners of a season-high four in a row the Wolf Pack improved to 17-14 and 9-7 in MW action while the Aztecs dropped to 25-9 and 10-6 in conference play.  Nevada is three games over .500 for the first time this season.

Pack shortstop Kyle Hunt started the scoring with a solo home run down the left field line off SDSU starter Bubba Derby with two out in the bottom of third inning.  Both of Hunt's home runs this season have come off Derby. 

In the fourth first baseman Austin Byler started the inning with a solo shot to make it 2-0.  It was his team-leading sixth of the season.  Nevada scored a second run in the inning on Scott Kaplan's RBI single and the Pack was on top 3-0.  Left fielder Kewby Meyer's second home run of the season came in the fifth and Nevada led 4-0.

SDSU scored twice in the top of the seventh to chase starter Barry Timko.  Reliever Colby Blueberg came out of the bullpen to retire the side in the seventh.

Timko (4-1) won his fourth game of the season allowing two runs on two hits in six innings on the mound.   Timko retired the first nine SDSU hitters of the game.  Blueberg pitched 1.2 scoreless innings before closer Adam Whitt (7) came out of the bullpen.

Whitt (7) tossed 1.1 scoreless  innings to record his seventh save of the season.  The seven saves moved Whitt into a tie for the seventh best season in school history and eight career saves is tied for 10th at Nevada.

Derby (5-1) suffered his first loss of the year allowing four runs on six hits in 6.2 innings on the mound.

Byler (2-for-3,R,RBI) and center fielder Trenton Brooks (2-for-3,R) led the Pack with two hits each.  Hunt, Meyer and Byler each homered.  The three home runs is a season game-high.

Greg Allen (2-for-4) and Seby Zavala (2-for-4,) led the Aztecs with two hits apiece.  Ty France and Brad Haynal each drove in a run.

Game two is set for 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
