Siri's Casino Holds Grand Opening in Downtown Reno
Crews have spent the last several months working on Siri's casino. And on Friday, city officials gathered for a ribbon-cutting to officially welcome it to Virginia Street.
The property has been closed for quite some time, and the owner is excited to bring some life into it.
"It's been long-closed and we need some light and we need some activity in downtown Reno. So, to be able to reopen this today is probably one of the most exciting days of my life," says Jeff Siri.
Doors opened around 1pm - and since then, it's been packed!
Guests were treated to musical and dance performances - along hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
It sits where the Primadonna club used to be.
Siri's hired around 30 people to help run the business. And inside, he told me there's 129 slot machines. The bar has nine daiquiri makers along with a snack bar in the back.
City officials say this puts the downtown area a step closer to getting a 'sustainable and vibrant economy.' "We know we have to have a vibrant downtown and so anytime you see a new business open down here, it helps to further us toward that goal," says Reno City Manager Andrew Clinger.
Next door, the Whitney Peak hotel remains under construction. They hope to open in time for Memorial Day Weekend.
