"Nevada has lost another legend today with the news of the passing of Speaker Joe Dini, Jr. One of Nevada's greatest statesmen, Speaker Dini holds the remarkable distinction of being the longest serving Nevada speaker in state history. A native of Yerington, Speaker Dini was a staunch supporter of rural Nevada and the essence of leadership in our state. I am proud to have had the opportunity to serve with him in the Assembly. Kathleen and I send our deepest condolences to Joe's family and friends."

Nevada Senator Harry Reid today released the following statement today on the passing of former Nevada Assembly Speaker Joe Dini.
"I am deeply saddened by the loss of my good friend, Joe Dini. A true legislator, he understood that legislation is the art of compromise and as a moderate Democrat, Joe worked with fellow legislators and governors from both sides of the aisle. I can think of no higher praise, than when the late Bill Raggio said Joe had,  ‘one of the greatest legislative careers in the state of Nevada,' and I agree. He devoted his life to public service, and always had every Nevadans' interests at heart. My thoughts are with his family during this difficult time."

"Joe's colleagues elected him Speaker of the Nevada State Assembly eight times, which is a remarkable testament to his leadership abilities and the distinction with which he served.

"Joe Dini represented the prototype for public service in the Nevada Legislature. He was a person who transcended partisan labels and did more in a given week during a legislative session for Nevada than most do in a year. When you look up ‘Mr. Speaker' in the Nevada dictionary, Joe Dini's picture is there. The consummate Yerington Lion from Mason Valley, his lifetime accomplishments for his community and his state are without equal. My sincere condolences to Mouryne and his boys. One of the neatest experiences I've had in Nevada public life is being able to say I served with Joe Dini in the Nevada Assembly. Thank you Mr. Speaker and Rest In Peace."

Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick released this statement:

"We are profoundly saddened to learn that former Assembly Speaker Joe Dini has passed away. Speaker Dini exemplified the best of public service, and was a role model for all legislators. The dignity and grace he brought to the Speaker's office served as an example to later Speakers Perkins, Buckley, Oceguera, and myself. He has left his great mark upon our state government, and his spirit will long continue to inspire us. Everyone in the Assembly Democratic Caucus extends their condolences to his family at this difficult time."

His career helping others is a model for true public service; he represented rural Nevada, but fought for the betterment of our entire state. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family. Our state has lost a leader, but we will forever remember his legacy."

Lyon County Manager Jeff Page released this statement:

On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners and Lyon County we are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend, neighbor, businessman, Rotarian and firefighter Joe Dini. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to the Dini family.

Joe Dini was the shining example of a statesman and all public servants, appointed or elected, should strive to be the example that Joe was. Joe was successful in the Legislature because he was willing and able to work through issues and problems. He did not see things from a north-south, urban-rural or Democrat-Republican point of view. He saw things from a State of Nevada point of view.

He and his family have operated a successful business in Yerington and have been great contributors to the community. He served in the Yerington Volunteer Fire Department, Rotary Club and numerous other civic groups. He was a champion for mental health issues throughout the state.

Lyon County is proud that Joe Dini was a lifelong resident and his words of wisdom, quiet approach, and grace as a gentleman will be missed. Mr. Speaker we thank you for your service to our community.
