Nevada Health Exchange Board to Set Fees for 2015

Posted: Updated:

A state board will try to predict how many people will sign up for health coverage through Nevada's health insurance exchange in the upcoming year.

The decision before members of the Silver State Health Insurance Exchange board on Thursday is directly tied to monthly fees those participants will pay to keep the exchange operating next year.

As more people sign up, the less they will need to be charged to cover exchange operating expenses.

But enrollment is hard to project. Last year officials set a target of 118,000. That number was cut to 50,000 after persistent problems with the system prevented many people from completing their applications.

Current rates are $4.95 per month for health plans. Those fees will double if not triple in 2015, depending on new enrollment projections.
