Washoe Commissioners Discuss Fire Options, Medical Marijuana

Posted: Updated:

Washoe County Commissioners are discussing fire service options between the county and City of Reno. Also, another reading of the medical marijuana ordinance is scheduled.

Commissioners are discussing fire service options regarding the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District (TMFPD) and the City of Reno. Earlier in the day, the City of Reno was denied a federal grant possibly forcing the City to lay off 35 personnel and schedule 'brown outs' for several area fire stations.

Commissioners will also conduct the second reading of the medical marijuana ordinance and possibly vote on the issue starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. The discussion will be about amending County Codes to provide for limited exemption of certain acts from criminal prosecution, and for the licensing and land use authorization required to operate medical marijuana establishments registered and permitted by the State of Nevada.

The meeting takes place in the Commission Chambers at 1001 E. 9th Street in Reno. View the complete agenda for the Tuesday, April 8 meeting for more information.
