Malaysia 'Cautiously Hopeful' About Latest Search

Posted: Updated:

It could be a major break in the hunt for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet.
The coordinator of the search for the plane's wreckage says an Australian ship has detected two distinct and long-lasting sounds underwater that are consistent with the pings from aircraft black boxes.
Navy specialists are trying to pick up the signal again so they can try to zero in on its position.
The next step would be to send an unmanned miniature sub into the ocean to try to identify plane wreckage.
The batteries in the black boxes run out after about 30 days, and the plane vanished March 8, so searchers are in a race against time to locate the devices.  (AP)
