Whitney Peak, Siri's Casino Opening Soon in Downtown Reno

Posted: Updated:

Most of us have been following the old Fitzgerald's building downtown as new owners turned it into CommRow - and then scrapped that project for the new Whitney Peak Hotel.

It's a flurry of construction in downtown Reno these days.

The long-awaited opening of the Whitney Peak Hotel is within sight after new owners gutted the former CommRow project.

And developers say it will be a sight that Reno has never really seen before- smoke-free, gaming-free and geared toward outdoor enthusiasts with a big nod to all things local.

"We are really playing to the strengths and all the bounty of amazing products that we have locally, to complement the food that will also be farm to table," says Rob Hendricks, Whitney Peak General Manager.

Whitney Peak secured prominent Reno restaurant owner Mark Estee to oversee its new "Heritage" restaurant hoping to draw visitors and locals alike to fill its 157 rooms.

And in place of gaming, guests can enjoy plenty of climbing with expanded facilities.

But gaming isn't entirely out of Whitney Peak's business plan. Just next door, the new Siri's Casino is in its final phase of construction opening up on property owned by the same company.

They say they'll work together to give people the whole Reno experience.

"We need different forms of entertainment to draw different types of people and at different times of the day and night, and so the more activity the better for everyone in this area," says Jeff Siri, Siri Development Company President.

Siri's Casino is hoping to have a soft opening as early as this weekend. And their grand opening will be on Friday, April 11.

Whitney Peak is planning to have construction wrapped up by the end of this month. They are already taking reservations and hoping to be open in time for Memorial Day weekend.

And Whitney Peak plans to have a few job fairs to hire for basically every position. Of course we'll keep you posted when they announce those dates.
