Sparks Police have arrested a man they say beat, sexually assaulted and strangled a woman after meeting her at a homeless shelter.

Police say on Saturday, the 39-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital after she was found battered and beaten on a Citifare bus.

Detectives say they learned the woman was sexually assaulted, beaten with fists, hit with a frying pan, strangled, and had her mouth duct taped. They say the suspect, Randy Flores Jr., physically prevented the victim from escaping throughout the night.

They say a subsequent investigation revealed the 43-year-old contacted the victim at a homeless shelter and offered her a shower, food, and a warm place to stay.

Police arrested Flores after they say they found items related to the crime in the 1900 block of Hymer Avenue. The Arizona resident has only been in the area for about one week.

Flores was booked into the Washoe County Jail on charges of sexual assault, kidnapping, battery with substantial bodily injury and strangulation. He's being held on a no bail hold.
