Friday, April 4:

Become a Horseman, Reno-Sparks Livestock Event Center

You can learn more about horses at an interactive horsemanship clinic on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center. The event starts on Friday morning with Mustang colts, and Friday afternoon with purebred colts. The session will conclude on Sunday with a riding exhibition on the newly started colts (if they are ready to be ridden.) Three-day ticket prices at $75 for general admission and $150 for reserved seating. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com, search for 'Become a Horseman.'

Global Gala, Nontombi Naomi Tutu, Atlantis Casino Resort Spa, 6pm

The Northern Nevada International Center is holding its 15th annual Global Gala event at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa in Reno. This year's speaker is Nontombi Naomi Tutu, the daughter of Abp. Desmond Tutu. Tickets are $100 or $750 for a table of 8. For more information, call 775-784-7515.

Reno Aces vs. El Paso Chihuahuas, Aces Ballpark, 6:35pm

Watch our home team take on El Paso in downtown Reno! There will be a fireworks show after the game and a pre-game ceremony to honor heroes from around the Northern Nevada community.

Monty Python's Spamalot, TMCC, 7:30pm

TMCC Theater will present the first northern Nevada production of Monty Python's Spamalot at the Nell J. Redfield Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday. A Night of American Opera, Nightingale Concert Hall, 7:30pm

The Nevada Chamber Opera is holding 'A Night of American Opera' with selections from Carlisle Floyd, Samuel Barber and Mark Adamo. Performances start at 7:30pm on Friday and Saturday and 2pm on Sunday at the Nightingale Concert Hall in the Church Fine Arts building on the University of Nevada campus. RISK!, National Automobile Museum, Reno, 9pm

The National Automobile Museum will open its theater doors to the hugely popular live show and podcast, RISK!, for its first-ever northern Nevada appearance. The sixth most popular podcast on iTunes, RISK! is hosted by MTV alum Kevin Allison. Tickets are $15 each in advance or $20 the day of the show and can be found at The Melting Pot World Emporium. Doors open at 8pm, and the show begins at 9pm.

Saturday, April 5:

ODS Board Game Marathon, Merwin's Game Shoppe

Omega Delta Sigma, Nevada Alpha is holding a 30-hour board game marathon at Merwin's Game Shoppe to help support the Veterans Guest House. The public is welcome to attend and play. There is donation-tier pricing on the event's website for those who wish to play. (ODS is the co-ed veterans fraternity at the University of Nevada.) Merwin's is located at 4104 Kietzke Lane in Reno.

Nevada 150: House Histories 101 Workshop, Nevada Historical Society, 9am

The House Histories 101 Workshop, held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nevada Historical Society in Reno, will feature a full-day workshop where participants will learn from research and preservation professionals the techniques used to research a building's history. Some of the topics include: identifying a home's architectural style and date, how to identify the past owners and occupants, and determining the community roles, the home's owners, occupants, architects and builders played. For more information call 775-747-4478.

Damonte Ranch Fire Station 12 Open House, 9am

The City of Reno and community partners will celebrate the grand opening of the Damonte Ranch Fire Station 12 during a public Open House on Saturday, April 5 from 9 a.m. to noon. The Open House will feature a free pancake breakfast provided by Damonte Ranch Homes. Complimentary balloons, coloring books and fire hats will be given out to children. Guests will have the opportunity to have their photo taken next to a fire truck and take a tour of the facilities.

This event is designed to recognize the growing population of women enjoying the outdoors across Nevada. It will feature hands-on demonstrations, seminars, live archery practice, giveaways, samples and more. And the first 100 women through the doors will receive a special gift. 'Lights, Sirens, Safety' Fair, North Valleys, 10am

Public safety agencies from throughout Washoe County will hold a crime prevention and safety fair in North Valleys at the Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Station from 10am to 2pm. Safety fair visitors may take part in interactive demonstrations, equipment exhibits, free pet microchipping, free blood pressure testing and more. The Sheriff's Office will also provide free safety activity books for children. The station is located at 11525 Red Rock Road in Reno.

Roadmap to Homeownership Event, Home Buyer's Expo, JA Nugget, 10:30am

The Nevada Rural Housing Authority is hosting a free Home Buyer's Expo from 10:30am to 2:30pm inside the Ponderosa Room at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.
