More than 450 students at a local elementary got a look inside the construction business Friday morning.
Whitehead Elementary School held "Granite Day" where employees of Granite Construction gave students an up-close look at the building industry teaching kids about the importance of safety, environmental impact and the amount of time and hard work it takes to complete a project.
Educators say the event is about taking the lessons the students learn in the classroom and applying them to the outside world
"And really helps our kids to see that what they're learning every day in math and science is important and they're going to use it out in the real world when they become our professionals and leaders in our community," says principal Kelly Keane.
This was the 14th annual Granite Day event.
