Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro is cautioning Virginia City Highlands area residents not to open their door to strangers after a man was hurt during a home invasion.

Deputies say around 11:30am last Friday, a man went to a home off of Lousetown Road, claimed to be an insurance salesman and then pushed his way inside where he bound the homeowner and ransacked the house in search of money.

The homeowner suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated at an area hospital.

The suspect is described as a white man, approximately 5'7" – 5'8" tall. They say he is in his early to mid-20's with short black hair. He is described as clean shaven and wearing aviator type sunglasses. They also say the man had a dry cough at the time of the incident.

He was last seen wearing a long sleeved button up collared red shirt, a thin blue tie, black or dark colored slacks and white athletic shoes

They say he was seen fleeing the scene in a black early 1990's model Honda Civic type vehicle with black rims and possible tinted windows. They say the vehicle may have a rear spoiler.

He was reportedly driving a dark colored 2-door sedan. As the man left the home, deputies say the homeowner grabbed the suspect's gun and shot off 4-5 rounds, possibly hitting the car's passenger door.

If you have any information, call the Storey County Sheriff's Office at 775-847-0959 or 911 immediately. You can also call Secret Witness at 322-4900 or text your tip to 847411. Your call will remain anonymous. A $1,500 reward is being offered.
