An annual fundraiser that benefits the Food Bank of Northern Nevada will open to the public later this week.
Ten teams of volunteers began building nine sculptures for the 11th annual CANstruction at Meadowood Mall on Wednesday.
"It's a fun way for us to get food for the hungry and to raise awareness that hunger happens all year-round and really to get people working together to give back to the community," says Jocelyn Lantrip.
Sculptures will be judged Thursday night. Then on Friday through Sunday, the public can come vote on which design should receive "people's choice" at $1 per vote.
All the money and canned food goes directly to the Food Bank.
The event is organized by the American Institute of Architects of Northern Nevada.
