Hope for Lennah

Posted: Updated:

When Lennah Sofia Martinez was born, her parents knew she was going to have a birth defect. "Within the first 10 minutes of her life she had her first surgery," explains her mom, Ashleigh Martinez.

Lennah was born with her intestines, stomach and bladder on the outside of her body. Six surgeries in 5 months fixed the problem. "Her gastroschisis was fixed. Her intestines work but there resulted new problems. During one of her surgeries she probably lacked oxygen and it caused a stroke and the stroke resulted in cerebral palsy and now she lives with brain damage."

Lennah can't stand, sit or grasp things. She needs constant supervision and daily therapy. "The neurologist told us the best form of therapy is going to be a sibling."

Seven months ago, the Martinez family received the gift of life. Truby was born. Not only is she Lennah's constant companion, but her cord blood was captured to be used to help Lennah. "When we're able to generate enough funds we will go down and have this blood transfusion using Truby's cord blood and hopefully it will help to regenerate some of Lennah's brain tissue."

The Martinez family is hoping to raise $21,000 for the treatment and intensive physical therapy. The hope is Lennah will one day be able to walk, talk and live more independently.

Currently, the family has raised $16,000. They still need another $5,000. To donate go to http://www.gofundme.com/LennahLovesLife

Also, the 4th annual Dodge, Duck, Dip & Dive Dodgeball Tournament will be held next month to raise funds for alternate treatments and therapies. Some of this year's money will go to the Martinez family.
