Local Facebook Page Connects Employers To Job Seekers

Posted: Updated:

Finding a job is no easy task, especially these days, but a local woman is using social networking to help fellow Nevadans.

The Facebook page is called "Word Of Mouth Jobs Reno." It's a free and easy way to connect employers with job seekers.

The founder, Michelle Walker, knows all about struggling to make ends meet. "At the time, I had some friends that had become unemployed and some of them are single moms with children and it broke my heart seeing their struggle. Having been a single mom trying to raise a couple boys myself a long time ago, my heart went out to them, so I thought what's the best way I could help."

That's how the Word Of Mouth Jobs Reno Facebook page came to be.

In 2012 ,the page's first year online, it had 500 likes. Since December, the site has become popular, doubling in likes.

Now hundreds of employers and prospective employees are sharing posts and it doesn't cost a dime.

Walker said the site is working, so much so people are sending her dozens of thank you emails.

She said a family of four recently emailed her saying they moved to Reno from Las Vegas in need of work.

After logging onto Word Of Mouth Jobs Reno, they had several interviews and eventually a job. "We have people who are gainfully employed that still come in and share what they know or hear about," said Walker. "There's just a nice sense of community going on. There's people helping each other out and giving each other job tips."

If you want to check out the site for yourself, head to Facebook, and type Word Of Mouth Jobs Reno and click 'join group'  https://www.facebook.com/groups/271938086255598/
