Local Fitness Professional Indulges in Sweet Side of Life

Posted: Updated:

Every entrepreneur knows that it takes commitment, creativity and stamina to start a business. And Tracy Vertucci has it all. She's always loved to bake. And a year ago her friends talked her into making money at it. After starting in commercial kitchens in town, Reno's new cottage industry law has made it so that she can cook out of her own home.

"That has helped a lot," she says. "It cuts down on the overhead and makes it so that I don't have to charge so much."

She specializes in savory sweets. Chocolate covered pretzels are a huge hit at local coffee houses including the Java Jungle, Bibos in South Reno and Swill on Lakeside. But she has signature treats too like salted carmel and chocolate, chocolate and peanut butter - and new this season lemon tea cakes.

"I want people to savor the flavor," she says. "Not just wolf them down. But if you savor them you eat 2 or 3 or maybe 7."

Because tasting is part of her quality control, she also spends a lot of time at the gym. In fact she teaches kickboxing and Zumba at Sports West Athletic Club, Saint Mary's Health Center and the Caughlin Club.

"I have to taste things...and if you are tasting things like this you have to work out. It's kind of the balance between my sweet side and my sporty side," she says.

And she's always planning ahead.

"This spring I'm launching a key lime pretzel," she said. "It will be like a shot of tequila without the ensuing bar fight. Just the lime and the salt."

Aside from delivering sweets around town, she takes private orders. And you can find her on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/TuccisSavorySweets?ref=br_tf
