State of Washoe County Address Delivered to Commissioners

Posted: Updated:

Washoe County Manager John Slaughter delivered the State of the County address on Tuesday to Washoe County Commissioners.

In the address, he discussed the accomplishments of county services over the past year, including more than four million visits to county parks and delivering more than 213,000 meals to seniors.

He said the county has stabilized financially since the recession also and discussed increasing funding for capital projects in the years to come.

"Over the next several years we're going to need to rebuild, as we're able to fund those projects and get to the point where we're actually funding major capital projects," says Slaughter.

Moving forward, Slaughter says the county will have to deal with a lot of turnover, because 23% of non-management employees and more than 40% of management staff will be leaving within 5 years.
