More Madness, More Money

Posted: Updated:

It's been four days of high intensity basketball as the N.C.A.A's basketball tournament got underway Thursday, and area casinos are cashing in.

For the Peppermill, this weekend is a big win, anyway you look at it.

Our headcounts are up, ticket counts are up,' said Terry Cox, director of race and sports book at the Peppermill. "The whole hotel has been 100% full for four or five days in a row."

In fact, he says this is the biggest March Madness year yet with hundreds of people coming in to Reno just for the games.

Cox predicts they'll be busy for the next couple of weekends too, but this one is the busiest of them all.

According to Cox, March Madness is the most successful sporting event of the year, even beating the Superbowl.

Hundreds of people from across the United States come right here to Reno just for the basketball tournament.

"It's been a tradition to give our wives a break this weekend," said Mark Wilson from Oregon.

"It gets us out of the house," added Freddie Smith.

I love coming out here, meeting good friends, good people," said Jon Reibly from Indiana. "March Madness baby right here."

A lot of fans say they're flying out of the area Monday or Tuesday morning.

But each one said the same thing; they'll be back next year for more madness.
