Buy Nevada Program Sees Jump in Membership

Posted: Updated:

A program promoting businesses that sell and make Nevada food and agriculture products is seeing a jump in membership.

The Reno Gazette-Journal (http://on.rgj.com/1l8xM2q ) reports the state Department of Agriculture's Buy Nevada program has seen its membership triple since mid-January.

An agency spokesman says there are now 59 members representing all membership categories -- distributors, growers, processors, restaurants and retailers.

Part of the effort to promote Nevada grown produce includes a proposed new specialty license plate. If approved, the new agriculture/FAA license plate with the Buy Nevada logo could be available later this year.

Money from sales will benefit Nevada FFA and support the Buy Nevada program.

The agriculture department is also applying for grants to promote specialty crop producers who are Buy Nevada members.
