Board Approves Deloitte to Assess Nevada Exchange

Posted: Updated:

A board chaired by Gov. Brian Sandoval has approved a $1.5 million contract to hire Deloitte Consulting to assess Nevada's problem-plagued health insurance exchange built by Xerox.

The Board of Examiners made up of the governor, attorney general and secretary of state held a special meeting Tuesday in Carson City to vote on the matter recommended by exchange officials.

Xerox was awarded a $75 million contract to build Nevada's online web portal called Nevada Health Link. But problems with program errors, long wait times, botched billings and coverage verifications have state officials looking for answers.

They also want to make sure problems are corrected before the 2015 enrollment period begins in November. The deadline to sign up for health coverage on Nevada Health Link is less than two weeks away on March 31.

Deloitte says its assessment will take five weeks.

Nevada Health Link is the state-run alternative to www.healthcare.gov -- the federal website for the Affordable Care Act, but it has had it's fair share of problems.

Only about 30,000 Nevadans have selected insurance plans, well short of the target of 50,000 by the end of the month.
