Free Summer Lunch Program Getting a Boost

Posted: Updated:

Summer lunch programs that provide meals to kids when school is not in session -- are getting a boost from the federal government.

Officials with the USDA say about 160,000 kids in Nevada are eligible for free or reduced-price lunches throughout the school year. But less than 10% have access to the free summer lunches.

Officials want to work with state and local officials to launch more lunch sites at churches, clubs and other community organizations.

If you are involved in a group, that is interested in providing a site fore free summer meals, you should contact the Department of Education at www.doe.nv.gov/Contact/Comments_Form/
