Accident Near Spooner Summit Critically Injures Passenger

The Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning accident on State Route 28 that injured 3 people near Spooner Summit.

Troopers say around 6:30am Tuesday, authorities were dispatched to a single-vehicle accident on SR 28 south of mile marker 10, north of the intersection with Highway 50.

A preliminary investigation reveals 25-year-old Wesley N. Waterman was driving a maroon 2009 Nissan Murano south on SR 28 when he may have fallen asleep, went off the roadway, hit a road sign and then struck a tree.

The vehicle came to rest on the right shoulder, facing south.

Waterman and passenger Karly Findorff suffered minor injuries. A second passenger, Morgan Russell suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno for emergency treatment.

Once the crash investigation is complete, all possible charges will be recommended to the Carson City's District Attorney's office for review.
