Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating an early morning accident on Highway 50 that killed a Fallon driver.

Troopers say they were called out to a two-vehicle accident about four miles east of Fallon just before 6am on Tuesday.

A preliminary investigation indicates 56-year-old Theodore L. Guazzini of Fallon was driving a green John Deere 6140D tractor pulling a hay trailer east on the highway. 36-year-old Justin M. Edgemon was also heading east in his blue 2012 Ford Focus. Authorities say Edgemon failed to slow his sedan, thus colliding with the rear of the hay trailer.

The Ford Focus came to rest on the eastbound lane of U.S. 50 while the tractor stopped on the dirt shoulder of westbound 50, facing east.

Edgemon died at the scene, while Guazzini was not hurt.

Troopers say it's currently unknown if alcohol was involved in the accident.

Both lanes of U.S. 50 were temporarily closed while troopers completed their investigation.

Trooper Chris Kelly of the Nevada Highway Patrol's Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating this tragic event. Witnesses, or anyone with additional information, can reach him at (775) 689-4661 or ckelly@dps.state.nv.us regarding case number NHP-140300811.
