Reno Mayoral Race A Crowded Field

Posted: Updated:

The field of candidates running for Mayor of Reno continues to grow. Reno businesswoman Idora Silver added her name to a list of nearly a dozen Thursday. She says it's just time to get involved with city government to help make a difference for the future.

"We are moving forward," Silver said. "I want to keep us moving forward and revitalize the area. We need to bring back our pride. When I moved here it was just so full of energy. I see we are making progress and I want to keep us moving forward."

Across town, two other candidates were already in full campaign mode.

Eddie Lorton filed on Monday. He also filed the lawsuit that forced the Nevada Supreme Court to rule that termed-out Reno City council members are not eligible to run for Mayor. He was a guest on America Matters Media.

"I have watched this town go down. Twelve years ago we were in the black and now we are $600 million in debt. I want to bring us out of there and see this city become fiscally accountable," Lorton said.

Chuck Reno was also on today's guest list.

"I am an engineer. I see things differently and I see things analytically. I see that we are in debt," Reno said. "But I also see we have an image problem. I think we can solve the image problem and we can help solve the financial problem by selling off unused assets."

And we're not done yet. Reno City Councilwoman Hilary Schieve says she plans to file for Mayor Monday morning. And Washoe County Commissioner Kitty Jung says she's considering a run as well but intends to wait until she sees who else is in the hunt.

Statewide, Secretary of State Ross Miller filed for Attorney General, and Governor Brian Sandoval is set to file Friday morning for a second term in office.
