From the American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter:
The American Red Cross Northern Nevada Chapter announces the 22 individuals and businesses nominated by the Northern Nevada community for the 11th Annual Real Heroes program.
"Real Heroes recognizes everyday people in our communities who have gone the extra mile to make a difference in someone else's life. These heroes are helping perfect strangers by giving comfort, support, and many times saving lives." Clara Andriola, CEO of the Northern Nevada Chapter said.
For example, Adult Good Samaritan Hero, Scott Gilliland was nominated by NV Energy for following his instincts when checking a meter in Sparks. Gilliland rescued an 88-year- old homeowner from a potentially dangerous gas leak in the house. Gilliland advised the resident to open the windows and leave the house. He also helped her work with NV Energy to cap off the leak and NV Rural Housing Authority to replace the faulty furnace.
And, Medical Hero, Renown's Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Denise Gonzalez exemplifies compassion and caring on a daily basis. She is known for seeking out ways to improve patients' and families' experiences. In addition to her nursing duties, Gonzalez represents the Pediatric Acute Care Unit in Renown's Shared Governance and educates kids and families about preventing head injuries.
