Search for California Sex Offender Ends Near Pyramid Lake

Posted: Updated:

A man wanted for sex crimes against a child in California was arrested in Washoe County Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, back in February, detectives with the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit received information from an agency in Shasta County California, that a wanted man may be in the Reno-Sparks area.

They say around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, a RSONU detective along with an agent with the U.S. Marshall service, saw the suspect driving near Pyramid Lake.

They say he was seen driving a green, 1993 Voyager Van.

With the help of Pyramid Lake Tribal Police, they arrested 69-year-old Robert Thomas Smith on a no-bail warrant out of California.

Smith was booked into the Washoe County Jail pending extradition to California.

RSONU says there is no indication that Smith has committed any crimes in our area.

If anyone has any further information on Smith's activities while in the Reno Sparks area please contact the RSONU office at 353-2244 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
