Deputies Arrest 2 Juveniles in Carson City Graffiti Case

Posted: Updated:

Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says deputies have arrested two juveniles in connection with widespread graffiti on several properties.

Sheriff Furlong says after Monday's media coverage, deputies interviewed two juveniles who were alleged to be in surveillance video. Furlong says one of the juveniles, a 17-year-old, made statements of admission and evidence found, including clothing and paint residue, confirmed the information and an arrest was made.

The other suspect is a 16-year-old boy.

Furlong believes the boys are responsible for what he calls an enormous amount of graffiti because it was done in a confined area during a short period of time. "It's all-out vandalism. There's no justifiable reason. No message being delivered. It's put up there to destroy property and intimidate people."

Surveillance video showed one juvenile in the process of defacing property with spray paint. Carson City deputies say more than 40 separate victims had property damaged by spray paint.

The suspects could face felony charges that could result in jail time, fines, and losing their driver's licenses. They might also have to pay retribution for the graffiti clean-up.
