Deputies Release Names in Deadly Plane Crash Near Truckee Tahoe Airport

Posted: Updated:

Placer County say one woman is dead and one man is injured after a small plane crashed near the Truckee Tahoe Airport. They were the only two aboard the plane when it crashed.

Deputies identified the woman who died as 55-year-old Darla Sue Farnell.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the single-engine Piper PA-46 crashed "under unknown circumstances" six miles southeast of the airport located at Truckee Airport Road.

Deputies say getting to the crash scene was difficult because of the heavy timber, deep snow and the remote location.

The second person onboard, identified as 70-year-old Ray Richard Farnell, was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. He remains in critical condition at the time of this writing.

Investigators from the FAA will begin investigating the crash on Tuesday.

So far, authorities don't know where the plane came from.
