Barry Timko tossed four shutout innings and the Nevada baseball team won the rubber match of a three-game Mountain West series on Sunday, beating San Jose State 8-3 at Peccole Park.

Nevada improved to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in MW play. SJSU fell to 3-9 and 2-4.

Kyle Hunt led a pretty complete team effort as he went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI as Nevada ripped 11 hits off of five Spartan pitchers in the game. Freshmen Trenton Brooks and Justin Bridgman combined for four hits, two runs and two RBI in the bottom of the lineup and Kewby Meyer collected two hits and two RBI.

Brooks started for the Pack on the mound and went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts. San Jose State plated three in the top of the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Pack and chase Brooks.

But Nevada came right back in the bottom of the inning to ties things up. With one out, Bridgman tripled and that was followed Kyle Hunt getting hit by a pitch and Austin Byler walking to load the bases. Kewby Meyer then singled through the right side to tie game at three.

Nevada took a 5-3 lead in the next inning as Bryce Barger delivered an RBI single and Bridgman knocked in another run with a fielder's choice groundball.

Brooks doubled in another run in the seventh to push the lead to 6-3 and Nevada cruised from there as Timko was in control. The junior scattered four hits and improved to 2-0 on the season.

Nevada is back in action on Tuesday with a single game at Pacific in Stockton, Calif. No broadcast is scheduled for that game. Nevada returns to conference play on Friday as it opens a three-game series at San Diego State.
