Storms Boost Resort Business

Posted: Updated:

Recent snowstorms are boosting business at several local ski resorts.

Officials say they're seeing more people hitting the slopes now that snow is actually falling.

"Mother nature hasn't come to the party," said Murray Blaney. "But hey, it's winter. It's starting to snow now. I'd rather look forward than look back."

Snow fell and wind blew for most of Sunday afternoon.

Mt. Rose has seen 18 inches of snow since Wednesday. Squaw Valley reports 26 inches of snow as of Friday, while Alpine Meadows says they got about 16 inches. However, these totals don't include what fell this weekend.

Sunday, though, Mt Rose was packed with skiers, who say they couldn't pass up on the chance to ski or board the fresh powder.

"I think it's great," said Reno resident Nina Bacigalupi."There's a lot of people out here, having a good time. There's a lot of nice, fresh powder from the snow we got over the weekend."

As of now, the plan is to keep Mt. Rose open through late April, weather depending.
