CHP Responds to Crash North of Bridgeport

Posted: Updated:

The California Highway Patrol is warning drivers to be careful driving in the snow after a car crash on the afternoon of Saturday, March 1st.

According to CHP, at around 3:30 p.m. troopers were called to a report of a vehicle that had rolled onto its side in the Walker Canyon area.

When troopers arrived they found a vehicle on Southbound US-395, north of SR-108, that had rolled onto the right shoulder and was resting on it's passenger side. The driver was identified as Stephen Dempsey of Mammoth Lakes. Dempsey had been traveling with his dog, when he saw a deer on the right shoulder that appeared to be moving towards the freeway. To avoid the deer, Dempsey swerved, and ended up rolling into the soft snow and dirt on the shoulder of the road. Both Dempsey and his dog were unharmed, and after officers took a collision report, were driven home to Mammoth Lakes.

CHP commanders say they want to remind drivers of the importance of staying attentive when driving in icy conditions, and say that there are times when a driver is better off taking a chance of hitting wildlife rather than moving to avoid it.
