RTC Considering New Bus Line to Lake Tahoe

From the Regional Transportation Commission:

Reno, NV (Feb. 28, 2014) – The Regional Transportation Commission will host an Open House on Thursday, Mar. 6th at RTC 4TH STREET STATION located in downtown Reno to present concepts to modify the RTC SIERRA SPIRIT circulator route and implement a new summer service to Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe on weekends and holidays. The hours of the open house are 7 am to 10 am and 3 pm to 5:30 pm.

RTC staff will be available to discuss these new concepts which were identified as opportunities to provide improved service during the update of the 2035 Regional Transportation Plan. Fares for the new summer service would mirror the fare structure similar to RTC INTERCITY, our commuter service between the Reno/Sparks area and Carson City. One-way trip fares for would be $5 for adults, $2.50 for reduced (seniors & youth).

Information will also be shared about new technology the RTC is considering that would allow riders to use their smart phones to pay for fares onboard the bus. This technology is becoming more common throughout the transit industry and with retailers across America.
"We're seeking input from the public about these options and welcome suggestions at the open house or through our website," said David Jickling, Director of Public Transportation and Operations.
